Our Featured Guest Star- Embellishing Life

Today, we are welcoming Jenny from Embellishing Life. I really wanted to make her feel at home, but I didn’t realize that my buddy Tom Selleck and his mustache had invited over Adam Richman from Man vs. Food. Now Tom apparently has the best intentions in mind. You see, he decided that my little Green Room was a tad boring and wanted to spice it up. And what better way to bring excitement to the room than to have an eating competition!

If you aren’t already familiar with him, Adam Richman’s show involves him going from city to city and taking on food challenges. The man can totally eat. His current season has him attempting to conquer a massive grilled cheese sandwich in Cleveland, OH, a 7-lb. seafood feast in Long Island, NY, and race to finish 50 wings in 30 minutes in Boulder, CO. But that is nothing compared to what Tom has set up for him.

Without my prior knowledge, Tom has arranged for the local Waffle House to take over my Green Room. I have to tell you that I am totally not thrilled about the grease puddles that are appearing on my hardwood floors. And the cook really needs to put an apron on over his wife-beater T-shirt. And maybe put some shoes on. Oh, and deodorant is a good thing.  Just saying.  This may just be a green room, but we have standards.

His plan is to have Adam eat a 14 pound plate of Waffle House hashbrowns, smothered, covered, topped and chunked in a 30 minute time period. Our waitress, Jilly Bean, is currently hauling the hashbrowns to the table as Adam looks on in horror. I’m guessing he isn’t familiar with southern cooking.  At least Paula Deen isn’t here to add a pound of butter to the top. He’s lucky Tom hadn’t thought of it. So now that the competition has started, lets take a few moments to talk with Jenny.

Suzy: Tell me a little about yourself, your family, your other hobbies…
Jenny: I’m a stay-at-home mommy of two little ones. I have an awesome hubby that never complains about my crafting addiction. The only hobby I have time for is my crafting/scrapping. The munchkins keep me pretty busy cleaning crumbs off the floor and fishing toys from the toliet. We keep busy with fun stuff, too. Little People, matchbox cars, and playing the Pretty, Pretty Princess game are favorites this week.

Suzy: When and why did you start blogging, and where would you like your blogging to lead?
Jenny: I started blogging this last September. I had been reading craft blogs for over a year and thought it was time I gave it a shot. Blogging gives me a creative outlet and a reason to finish the projects I start! I don’t know where I want it to lead, right now it’s fun and I’m loving it.

Suzy: Can you tell us a few things that most folks don’t know about you?
Jenny: Before I became a mommy I was a middle school math and science teacher.  I’m addicted to daytime soap operas.
Suzy: Daytime soaps?  Did you know Adam Richman was in All My Children?  After he’s done stuffing those hashbrowns down, we should ask him about it.  That is, if he survives.  Ha!

Suzy: Name a few of your favorite websites that you go to for inspiration.
Jenny: Be Different…Act Normal , Sassy Sites , This Blessed Nest . There are so many I love, but these are a few I go to often.

Suzy: Since I’m kinda a crafty blog, I have to ask. I know that you specialize in papercraft. Is there any other crafty styles that you enjoy?
Jenny: I love all kinds. Especially if it’s inexpensive and easy!

Suzy: Since I’m also kinda a sitcom-type blog, do you have a favorite television star? Tom wants to know….
Jenny: I guess I would say Patricia Heaton and Steve Carell. Just because I’m lovin’ The Middle and The Office.
Suzy: Tom wants you to know that he knows Steve Carell.  He ran into him once on the way out of the Quickie Mart.  Does that give him any points?

Suzy: How do make time in your day to blog? I know first hand how time-consuming a good blog is. How do you schedule it all in?
Jenny: I mainly do my blogging at night when the kiddos are sleeping. Sometimes I can squeeze in time during naps and preschool hours. Since I began blogging the house looks “creatively disorganized” far more often. I’m still working on balancing it all out!

Suzy: I believe a crafter’s space tells alot about them. Can you tell me about yours?
Jenny: Space is an issue in my home, so I don’t really have my own space. I kind of take over the dining room table with my little containers. I work best when I can see everything laid out in front of me.

Suzy: Is there anything that you would like me to particularly promote? Any special tutorials coming up? Any sponsors? Giveaways? Your Etsy shop?

Jenny: I do have an etsy shop. Somewhat Simple is having a Studio Boutique starting the day after Thanksgiving that I am participating in. She’ll be featuring several shops for all that holiday shopping.
Suzy: Jenny, thank you so much for your time! Please take a moment to swing by Jenny’s site, Embellishing Life and check out what is going on.  She offers a Craft Cat Walk on Mondays where you can link your latest project, and tons of great papery craft ideas and wonderful stories.  Also, her Etsy shop is currently featuring a cute Teacher Gift Tin.
Suzy: And again, I apologize about the hectic state of my Green Room. I usually try to make it a calm place for my guests.  But we should check in and see how Adam did on the food challenge.

And it appears that Adam made it! His plate is empty. Nothing but a few small grease stains remain. He looks a little green around the gills, though.  Tom, you might want to go look for the Pepto.  The cook and Jilly Bean were so impressed with his performance that they are planning to plug his show at the next Waffle House tractor pull.  In fact, I believe that Jilly Bean kinda likes him. You know in a like, like kind of way.  She has turned in her time card, put in her best set of dentures and is currently on the phone with Uhaul, arranging for the contents of her mobile home to be shipped to Hollywood.

We probably shouldn’t tell her that Adam is from New York.  The poor thing will thank us once he comes out of that carbohydrate coma.  Tom- did you find the pepto??
